Beschreibung
The fountain of Trevi is the largest fountain of Rome, 25,9 m high and 19,8 m wide. This fountain in Baroque style was constructed by the architect Nikola Salvi. It adjoins a facade of a palace of Pauly. The majestic facade of the palace and the fountain are perceived as a unit and therefore the fountain seems even more grandiosely. The central niche of the palace as on a chariot is left by the Ocean sitting on a sea shell which is pulled by tritons. In niches on each side from the Neptune allegorical figures, and over them bas-reliefs are placed. On the right bas-relief the young girl specifies to the Roman soldiers where there is a source. From this source laid an aqueduct on which water arrived to Rome, and an aqueduct as well as the source, received the name Acqua Vergine
