Beschreibung
The upper part of the Dudh Koshi Valley, where the Ngozumpa Glacier – the longest in the Himalayas – begins. At the valley’s head there is an impressive mountain ridge, a part of the main Himalayan ridge. It stretches here between Cho Oyu (8201m) on the left-hand side, the sixth-highest mountain on Earth, and Gyachung Kang (7952m) on the right side. The latter is the world’s highest mountain below 8000m. Between the two, there are two peaks named in honour of two men, who together were the first people to climb Mount Everest: Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. Tenzing Peak (7916m) is to the right of Cho Oyu and the Hillary Peak (7681m) is to the left of Gyachung Kang – between them the ridge rises again to the top of Ngozumpa Kang II (7743m). An autumn afternoon view from a place on the Ngozumpa’s lateral moraine, short walk above Gokyo and short distance from the Gokyo Trek or the Three Passes Trek trail in the Sagarmatha National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Khumbu, the Everest Region, Himalayas. Solukhumbu, Nepal. Photo with peak labels.
