Beschreibung
The room originally appeared as a loggia open to the secret gardens, in the second half of the eighteenth century, however, the room was closed to ensure the conservation of the vault with the Council of the Gods, painted between 1624 and 1625 by Giovanni Lanfranco (1582-1647). Almost all the works preserved in the room belong to the seventeenth century, which exemplify the two main pictorial currents of the early seventeenth century: on the one hand, the revival of a classic style of Carraccesque origin, such as the four tondi by Francesco Albani. The hairstyle of Venus, Venus in the forge of Vulcan, Venus and Adonis, The Triumph of Diana and the Landscapes of Giovan Francesco Grimaldi. Numerous works by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) are also preserved here: the Bust of Paolo V Borghese, the two famous versions of the Bust of Cardinal Scipione Borghese; the Capra Amalthea, an early work and the terracotta sketch for the equestrian monument of Louis XIV, made more than seventy years old. There are also three paintings by the same artist, the Portrait of a Child, the Self-Portrait in Mature Age and the Self-Portrait of a Youth.
