Beschreibung
Xian Cun(village) in Guangzhou can be dated back to Song Dynasty (more then 800 years old) but most of the crowed buildings were built around 1980s. Due to the recent developments of the area the village was partly torn down around June,2010. There were around 2000 households before, now approximately 500 left. The term “nail house” has been frequently used to refer to homes whose owners refuse to relocate and make room for development. Those homeowners are described by both developers and authorities as selfish, unruly and greedy for huge compensation. Villagers from Xian Cun were threaten by the local police who also used the tear gas and exercised it's power to try to force them out of the place . They still survive and oppose the demolition simply because they not satisfied with compensation and have nowhere to go . Red flags in Xian Cun is the symbol of their resistance.
