Skaftafell, Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland von georadek

Skaftafell is a place in the southern part of the Vatnajökull National Park (the largest national park in Europe) in Eastern Iceland. There are a few glacier tongues (outlet glaciers) in the area including Skaftafellsjökull, Svínafellsjökull, Skeiðarárjökull all of them being outlet glaciers of the Vatnajökull ice cap, which is the largest glacier in Europe. There is Skeiðarársandur - the outwash plain (sandur) - in front of them and this is the largest sandur in the world. Hvannadalshnúkur (2110m), being the highest peak of Iceland, overlooks the area and Svartifoss is one of the park's highlights and - no doubt - one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls.
